Saint Peter’s Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands

Saint Peter’s Port in the Channel Islands was a wonderful stop on our northern European cruise with Celebrity. The islands are quite flat, and ideal for bicycling, so we opted to take a bike tour for our time here. The island was very rural and beautiful, it felt like going back in time. My favorite part of this trip was learning about the tradition of Hedge Veg in Guernsey. Many people garden and grow food here – we saw some very elaborate greenhouses filled to the brim with gorgeous tomatoes. In many yards, people had put out bins, baskets or other containers full of extra garden produce. The idea is that you take what you need, and pay what you can. I found it very charming.
